Post 11/15

The purpose of my paper is to hopefully settle a dispute in my own mind. I hope to show that the Mozart Effect is real and that it does work, I have had so many people tell me that the Mozart Effect is real but at the same time so many have told me that it is not. My target audience is soon to be parents or pregnant parents, though this could apply for everyone, that are looking for ways to help their baby excel right after birth. For my main text I found a article on the library's website that gave me some very good information. With my main text I am tackling the argument whether or not im right or wrong and so I plan on having my main text explain my point of veiw have some points that back my veiw up and then I will show the argument against what I think. The major point is that the Mozart Effect is real and that it can help excel a baby before birth and keep helping them after they are born. I plan on making this point by saying what I believe, backing myself up with my article I found, and then throwing in the argument that says the opposite of me. Once all is said and done I hope my audience beleives that the Mozart Effect is real and that it does work and that maybe one day when they have a baby of their own they will use it to try and help their baby excel.

11/13

When I get ready to write a paper I normally read through my information and seperate the information into groups. Once I have all the information seperated I go through the group and order the information from most important, informative, and what best helps my argument. After the information is broken down like that I then add it to my paper. I mean I am not a great writer as it is, but this process is something my mom helped me with in middle school and it has worked for me since then. The thing that really gets me with that is I am not always good at keep my information in chronological order. I have tried many other types of organization with papers and the only other type of organization that kind of worked for me would be to organize my information like I would notes for a class. Even then i still go through and place my information in groups and do it the way my mom tought me.

Blog 10/4

One of the most important skills related to research is organization; you need to be able to find your notes or your sources without digging for an hour, because that wastes valuable reading and writing time. What strategies have you learned for organization in previous classes or research projects? What strategies might you borrow from the chapters you read? What is the problem with "The Shadow Scholar"? What reason/excuse does he give for his actions? Do you think his actions damage the state of education? Why or why not and/or how?

If you looked at my binder and my backpack you would see me as one of the most unorganized, cluttery, and messy person you have ever met. In some of my earlier english class I have been tought to write on a seperate sheet of paper the things I am going to talk about and organize them in the order i am going to talk about them.

11/8

For our last and final paper this semester we have to use the Research Method. The purpose of this paper is to pick a topic, express your opinion and explain why your opinion is correct. By using the Research Method I am going to do exactly that in my paper. I have done my research and found mulitple sorces that either agree with my veiw or that disagree. I am going to use both of these to help explain my point. Which also leads me to say that is another charateristic of the Research Method, you can not just have one side to a story you have to have an argument to your side so that your paper does not seemed biased but more so informative and argumentative.

Pop Culture 11/3

Last thursday we played one of the biggest rival games on our football schedule. We played Western Kentucky, every year its a war when both of us step onto the turf. We play hard hitting, gut wrenching, bloody football for 60 minutes. This past thursday was the craziest most nerveracking game so far of the season. The entire game was back and forth, neither of us really showed any dominance on the feild, it was such a good game that it came down to the last 5 seconds of the game for us to seal the win 34-29. We had our big plays like a 95 kick off return in the 4th quarter, and interception at the end of the game to help seal the win.

That game will be a game that i remember for the rest of my life, we had not beaten them in 2 years and then we come out and play a game like that. The best feeling was winning that game and celebrating with my team!

Oct. 23

As I have started my research my first source that I found is the one that I beleive will have the best information for me to use. Granted it is not a very long source but it explains the effect of Mozarts music on babies. It give the same explanation that I have heard so many times before. It talks about babies that listen to Mozart for 30 minutes used less energy when they were sleeping than babies who were not listening to Mozart. The reason I think that this is a really good source is beacuse I found it throught the library's website and it is a periodical, and it also restates what I have heard my whole life about babies and Mozart's music.

Topic for 18th

Me and citations have a long frustrating past! It took me a very long time to figure out a correct way to cite and now when I cite I put the authors last name and the page number and it hasnt failed me yet. It took me prolly 5 years to figure out that citation and it was the most gruling process for me because I already am not a good writer so when my teacher threw a citiation on top of that i about lost my mind. Every teacher I have ever had has always tried showing me every citation style that they thought would work for me and granted some of them were easy for me but the majority of them were the most confusing things i had ever seen in my life. Along with learning how to use them it took me a while to learn their purpose, they are used first to give the author credit, second to help the reader find the quote in the article or book that you pulled it from. Using MLA is the most widely used and it has such a wide variety that, i beleive, it can help you with any type of citation that is out there.

Source

"Mozart Benefits Preterm Infants." I saw this article and was not sure if I should use it or not in my paper for the simple fact that it is talking about premature babies and that is not really the focus of my paper. As i read a little of this article I realized that this would be the perfect source for my paper. Though the article talks about premature babies it describes what listening to a Mozart sonata did for the babies and it also gave me my argument. The article talked about how the researchers only studied certain mozart peices so it gave me the argument "is Mozart the only type of music that can be used to help babies fall asleep, help them sleep deeper, help them with their physical state, and does it increase brain function."

This article helped me get this paper up and running by asking that simple question. Is Mozart the only composer who created music that can aid a sick baby, help a baby fall asleep and help increase brain function at young and older age.

GOON

Last night I was laying in my room watching a movie and I started thinking about the name of the movie and how the character in the movie was portrayed. The movie was called "Goon" it is about a guy who basically has nothing going for him in his life, his best friend runs a web video website that talks about hockey. He goes to a hockey game with his friend and one of the players from the away team get put in the penalty box and they start yelling at eachother and the hockey player climbs over the plastic wall trying to fight this guy and ends up getting his butt kicked. That fight changed his life, the head coach of the home team saw what he did and liked it so he let him try out for the team as the "enforcer." Basically he was the guy who when he was on the ice just beat the crap out of anyone who touched his teammates. He stayed with this small team for a little while and later in the movie he gets a shot with a semi big team to be their enforcer. He ends up going and beating the crap out of everybody, but the really big thing about him going up to that team is that there is a player who is about to retire who is known as the leagues best enforcer and every hockey fan wants them to duke it to see who the best enforcer is.

The reason I chose to talk about Goon is because its very stereotypical of hockey players, it basically said that he was not ther to play hockey but to just beat everyone up so that his team could win. Hockey is known as a nehanderthal sport and it was just funny that this movie portrayed that perfectly. If you went to a hockey game you would notice that there is not one point in the game where someone is not getting the *bleep* knocked out of them but its how the game is played. Normally when there is a movie made after a sport it does exactly what this movie did, it stereotypes to the max.

Post 9/25

This semester i have learned to think outside the box. I was never narrow minded but I used to not be able to think outside of the box very well. With the combination of my english, management, and marketing class I have learned that to be sucessfull and do things to my full potential I cannot have a narrow mind veiw. This was very evident on the first paper I wrote because I love video games but i had to write a paper saying that video games are bad and that they serve no purpose. For this next paper I am positive that this skill will help me write a good paper; definatly a better paper than my last one.

The stupid box

The claim made by Johnson is incredibly dumb! I do agree that TV shows have gotten a little more complex but to take it as far as saying that it makes us smarter in not smart in itself. Stevens argument is where i am at on this, she basically argues against everything Johnson said and i would do the same. I'd say the only TV channels that would even remotly give you the slightest amount of knowledge would be History channel, Discovery, and maybe animal plants. Other than that TV show are purly for entertainment they have no educational value at all. If anything they bring complications into society. Im with Stevens all the way!

Team Iphone

This week they announced the release of the Iphone 5 and me being the only one of my freinds without a smart phone; I was really excited to hear about this because my dad has been talking about buying my family iphones. When I first saw the article i thought to myself what could they do to really make it different from the 4s? I personally thought all they did was make it thinner but as i could have guessed i was wrong. I installed a bigger more clear camera, they installed a fast processer so the phone would run apps and things like that fast, and like i thought they made it thinner. Overall the Iphone 5 is the same as the 4s its just a better, thinner, lighter camera basically.

With all of that said i am still pumped that i might be getting one! So hopefully soon ill be able to write on twitter #TEAMIPHONE5

Anne Lamott's "Shitty first draft," was written by me and her together on a sunday afternoon while drinking a cup of tea in the park! NAH! It really feels like we both wrote it together though, for the simple reason that is how my papers always start. I never know what to write; even if i have an idea in my head i still get stuck on where to begin and when i finally do begin i have the hardest time continuing on in the correct direction. When she said that writing everything down that comes to your head will help i didnt really beleive it and then i did it on this paper and it got me going but as always i got stuck again! This was a good essay and its really gonna help me with my first paper and the paper's to come, but first i gotta get past my mental block and be able to keep writing this first paper!

Cowboys and Angels

I am a fanatic about country music! If you looked at my ipod about 88% would be country music. The other day i was listening to the radio and i heard the song cowboys and angels by dustin lynch and was immediatly drawn to it. I know alot of country songs but this one caught my attention because it made me think of home. It talkes about how women are mens angels they save us and it brought around the thought of my mom and how she has helped me and saved me in so many situations. Now, yes the song is mainly talking about a sexual attraction and that brings me back to the girlfriends i had back home but since i dont have them anymore i like to get rid of that sense of the song and just apply it towards my mom!

When i get ready for class I always check my backpack first to make sure i have my binder, pencil/pen and my computer. Once i have all that stuff in my bag I do a mental check to make sure I finish all of my homework and if I am unsure i go back and check. During discussions in class I am not always the first to answer a question because I like to have a educated answer, so I will wait and listen to other peoples answers so that i can put together an educated answer. When I choose to speak up its because I beleive i have something good to add to the discussion, if I do not speak up its because I am not confident in what I have to say. My contributions definatly help me with homework and classwork because I am more engaged in the conversation and in turn remember the information better.

"Watching TV makes you smarter" argues the point that television now a days can actually give your brain a workout. I am going to start by saying I LOVE TV! I almost want to agree with this reding but in all honesty no matter how much i love TV i cant agree. Now, yes there may be some TV programs that can be educational but the majority of TV is just crap that is liked by by us. I have currently found a new liking for the TV show Lost and im not gonna lie its a really good show, it very interesting and capturing but when i actually look at it, it is probably the most pointless show i have ever watched in my life yet it still made money. I cant agree with his argument, TV does not make you smarter it keeps you "occupied!"
